Making Reflection a Daily Practice: Discipline and Mindfulness

Reflection is one of the most impactful practices you can cultivate—but let’s be honest, it’s also easy to push aside. Life gets busy, and reflection can feel like something you’ll “get to later.” That’s why the first and most important piece of advice I can offer is this: make it a discipline.

Reflection isn’t something that happens on its own. You have to decide it’s a priority, choose a specific time to do it, and commit to showing up no matter what. For me, that means journaling. Every day, I carve out time to write, even if it’s just a few lines. This practice helps me process my thoughts, reflect on my experiences, and gain clarity about what’s next.

Another key part of my reflective routine is painting. While it’s not traditional journaling, painting is a deeply mindful practice for me. It allows me to connect with myself and the great creator, reflecting on what I want to express and how I want to inspire transformation through my work. It’s a creative way of processing what’s happening in my life and turning those reflections into something tangible.

If you’re just starting out with reflection, one of the best tools is asking yourself the right questions. In Beauty from Chaos, we included reflective prompts designed to guide you through this process. These questions help you pause, think deeply about your experiences, and make intentional choices for growth. Here are a few to get you started:

What is one small win I can celebrate today?

What is something I’ve learned from a recent challenge?

If I were living fully aligned with my values, what would I do next?

The key is consistency. Whether it’s five minutes of journaling, a quiet walk, or time spent painting, reflection becomes transformative when it’s practiced regularly. It’s a gift you give yourself—time to pause, grow, and align with the life you’re creating.
