Embracing the Bridge Between Who You Were and Who You’re Becoming

In the journey of transformation, it’s easy to feel like we have to shut the door on our old selves to step into who we want to be. But what if the path forward is actually a bridge that connects both sides of who we are?

I once shared a vision with my coach: I pictured a beautiful new house, full of promise and possibility, and a little shack across a bridge, holding remnants of who I used to be. For a while, I felt like I was constantly crossing that bridge, bringing pieces of the past back to my new space. And honestly, it created a bit of inner conflict—like I was torn between two worlds.

But here’s what I discovered: the bridge isn’t something to fear. It’s a space of integration. Both the old shack and the new home have value. The old self carries the lessons and the resilience that got you this far. The new self is the space where you can grow and flourish.

So rather than feeling like you have to abandon one for the other, allow yourself to walk that bridge with grace. Let your past self inform your journey without letting it hold you back. And let your future self invite you forward without feeling like you have to erase where you’ve been.

If you’re in a season of change, remember: you are allowed to embrace both sides of yourself. The beauty of transformation is that it includes all of you—the past, the present, and the future. And in that wholeness, you’ll find your true home.
