Your Inner Filtration System: Separating Truth from Noise

Have you ever paused to ask yourself, Is this really my belief, or is it something I’ve absorbed from the world around me?

It’s a question I’ve come to value deeply, both in my personal life and in my art. Just as a painter steps back from the canvas to assess what’s working and what’s not, we all need moments to examine the beliefs we’re carrying.

I like to think of this process as using an “inner filtration system.” It’s about separating truth from noise, questioning assumptions, and keeping only what aligns with who we are becoming. For me, this has meant letting go of beliefs like, You have to follow a certain path to be successful. That belief kept me tied to rigid plans and expectations that didn’t align with my heart.

In painting, this process is mirrored in editing—adding layers, removing others, and trusting that the final piece will reflect what truly matters. Life is much the same. When we filter out the beliefs that no longer serve us, we create space for clarity, authenticity, and growth.

Take a moment to reflect: What beliefs feel heavy or outdated? What truths feel light and freeing? Trust your inner filter to guide you.
