Perfection. It sounds like a worthy goal, doesn’t it? But in my experience, perfection is often a trap—one that keeps us from fully expressing who we are and what we’re capable of.
When I first started painting, I wanted every stroke to be flawless. I wanted my art to look “right.” But what I found was that the harder I tried to make something perfect, the less alive it felt. The colors didn’t flow, the composition felt rigid, and the process itself became frustrating.
It wasn’t until I gave myself permission to let go of perfection that my art began to evolve. I started layering paint without a strict plan, experimenting with textures and colors, and letting the process guide me. What I discovered was that the mess—the imperfections, the unexpected twists—was where the beauty lived.
This same lesson applies to life. We spend so much time trying to be perfect—perfect partners, parents, professionals—but in doing so, we often lose sight of our humanity. Surrendering perfection doesn’t mean giving up; it means embracing the truth that life is messy, and that’s okay.
So here’s my invitation to you: What would it look like to let go of perfection in one area of your life? Maybe it’s trying something creative without worrying about the result. Maybe it’s allowing yourself to make mistakes. Whatever it is, I hope you’ll find the freedom I’ve found in surrendering to the mess.
