Embracing Uncertainty: Taking the First Step

Anytime you step into something new, uncertainty is part of the process.

Whether it’s starting a new job, launching a business, or learning a new skill, you quickly realize that you don’t know what you don’t know. You do the research, you take your first step, and suddenly you discover there’s so much more to learn. Then you take another step, and the process repeats.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in those moments. For me, the key has always been to focus on just taking the next baby step, then the next, and then the next. It doesn’t matter if the journey feels daunting—what matters is continuing to move forward, even when you don’t have everything figured out.

One thing I’ve learned is to expect that things won’t go exactly as planned. Whatever your goal is, it’s going to be harder than you think. It’s going to cost more money than you imagined. There will be roadblocks you didn’t anticipate. But none of that means you should stop.

When I started painting, I had no idea what I was doing. I was entering a completely new world, and every step revealed another layer of skills and knowledge I needed to learn. There were moments of frustration, moments when I wondered if I was cut out for this. But instead of giving up, I focused on one thing: taking the next step, no matter how small.

The beauty of embracing uncertainty is that it stretches you. It teaches you resilience, patience, and creativity. You may not know exactly what lies ahead, but by continuing to take steps, you build momentum—and eventually, you’ll look back and realize just how far you’ve come.

If you’re standing at the edge of uncertainty right now, here’s my advice:

Expect challenges, and don’t let them discourage you.

Trust that you’ll learn as you go.

Celebrate each step forward, no matter how small it feels.

Uncertainty isn’t something to fear; it’s a sign that you’re growing and stepping into new possibilities. Keep moving, and trust that the path will unfold as you go.
